New software to help lawyers rapidly review discovery documents with saccadic eye motion tools

Press release, June 18, 2007:  SAN ANTONIO, TX . — Transportation has evolved from the horse to supersonic jets.  So has communications from the town crier to the Internet.   Yet, Lee Johnson, the chief executive officer of Mind Talent, Inc., said reading has not evolved in the 600 years since the Gutenberg Press’ first production of the Bible.  Johnson and his San Antonio, TX., based company hope to revolutionize that way people comprehend the written word with a computer based product. Working with MC 2, another San Antonio technology company, Johnson has created the first Mind Talent product, designed for those who need to read a lot of documents at 300 to 600 words a minute instead of the customary 100 to 150 words per minute.    Johnson will officially release the software June 21st at the ALM Legal Tech conference in Los Angeles.

“We have optimized the saccadic eye motion of readers through software that they can install on their computer,” said Johnson.   Mind Talent and MC2 have done preliminary research with lawyers, engineers and researchers to see how the increased speed and comprehension has helped them work more efficiently.   In addition to a full featured product that works with MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Word, Excel, IE 6 (HTML) and PDF, Mind talent will release a Lexis Concordance™ version in July of 2007.  “Doubling or tripling the speed by which legal reviewers can read documents will be the perfect complement to the industry’s leading discovery management product.” Johnson said.

About Lee Johnson : Johnson has worked within the legal support field for over 18 years, most notably with data analysis products which allowed attorneys to find key documents.    “The amount of discovery information is continuing to grow beyond our ability to handle it, and no matter how good the database no matter how good the search engine, someone (usually a lawyer) still has to read the information,” said Johnson. Prior to forming Mind Talent, Johnson was the Founder of DocID Technologies, Inc., the first legal auto-coding company, in 1996. The company was sold to a Swiss firm for an undisclosed amount in 1998.   In 2000, Johnson was the Founder of Syngence, LLC, the first company to integrate concept search technology into existing legal discovery technology.  Johnson left the company in 2006 to form Mind Talent.   In June, a private group of former Microsoft and Adobe executives purchased the company.  [Syngence}
