The EDRM (Electronic Discovery Reference Model) project is a consortium of corporations, law firms and e-discovery service providers whose main objective is to establish standards and guidelines for the electronic discovery market. As early as 2003, the Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery survey identified this lack of standards as a major concern for consumers and service providers alike.
