E-Discovery, Enhancing Practice08/20/2020The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (“NIST”) published a draft report, Four Principles of Explainable Artificial Intelligence, which sets forth four proposed principles regarding the “explainability” of decisions made by Artificial Intelligence systems, reported Hunton Andrews Kurth. The four principles are:
  • Explanation: Systems deliver accompanying evidence or reason(s) for all outputs.
  • Meaningful: Systems provide explanations that are understandable to individual users.
  • Explanation Accuracy: The explanation correctly reflects the system’s process for generating the output.
  • Knowledge Limits: The system only operates under conditions for which it was designed or when the system reaches a sufficient confidence in its output.

Enhancing Practice08/20/2020Virtual jury trials are neither wanted nor happening, reported Angela Morris of Legaltech News. 57% of almost 2,800 lawyers surveyed in June said they were not open to virtual jury trials, 24% said maybe, and only 19% said yes; and none seems to have taken place yet.
